Well, it was in the house. Poor little man got the chicken pox and guess who I think gave it to him? Me! I had a strange rash a few weeks ago with a sore back and couldn't figure out what was going on, well now we are thinking it might have been a mild case of shingles. If this is the case, which makes sense- then little man caught the chicken pox from his momma! He did rea

Often I'm grocery shopping with all three kids, which some would say is just about as crazy as it can get. So to help the kids have a little fun while we were out during our last trip, I told them that they can search around the produce section for something brand new to try. They loved this idea! It was a good opportunity for them to do some reading as they were searching as well. So what do you

Are you sitting there as you watch this newest fad - kicking yourself and asking, Hey,why in the world didn't I think of that? Well, if your kids are part of this craze, we might as well use this opportunity for learning. I've noticed a few posts around the web focusing on just that- learning with silly bands. My daughter was doing her own creative thinking with silly bands this m
My fun library find this week was Mouse Shapes by Ellen Stoll Walsh. I checked it out to read to little man, because I thought that he'd enjoy the bright colors. He's a bit young for shape recognition, but I wanted to share the book with you, because I think it would be great for toddlers and preschoolers. If you have shape foam stickers or cut out shapes with construction paper,
What is it that makes a simple box so magical? Is it because there are so many possibilities? It can be whatever you want it to be! Maybe a car or a house, a puppet theater, or a bed, or a plane or a .... The list is endless. Yesterday, I bought a vacuum. (I've been going crazy without one for weeks. Yeesh!) Sunshine was so excited when she saw the empty box, but not so thrilled when Dad was about

Do you ever put Sesame Street on for you baby or a Baby Einstein video? I'll admit that I've done both for all three of my children, even though the American Pediatric Association recommends 0 television for babies under 2 years of age. Recently, I've read that there are studies that have shown a delay in language development for children under age 2 who watch TV and baby vid
Here's a fun website that we found today-The Art Zone. The girls experimented with the Brushter and enjoyed being creative with "paint." Online paint that is! If you'd like to paint with the kids, but want to take a break from the traditional messy painting- that we love by the way, you'll have to check out Brushster. It has a lot of cool options for creating. We still need
Yesterday, as I was holding a little piece of netting, Sunshine approached me wondering what I was doing with it."I think it would make a cute jellyfish craft. We can add ribbon and other decorations.""Oh no, Mommy. This would make a great snood.""A what?""A snood." She then grabs it out of my hand and proceeds to put it on her head."What is a snood?""Women wore them on their heads in the 195
It's exciting for us to find a book we've never read from an author that we admire. At our most recent library visit, we came across Pezzettino by Leo Lionni. What attracted me to the book was the title and the bright colors on the cover page. Little Pezzettino is so small he is convinced he must be a piece of somebody else. A wise man helps him discover the truth. We enjoye

Home Sweet Home! or is it? I think it's hard to come back from the beautiful mountains, hearing the birds in the morning and the crickets at night and a weekend with no worries- to my messy home and bills and worries, etc. Oh well, home is where your loved ones are, right? As my children watch advertisements on tv, I've noticed how easily influenced they are by the ads. Especially when my seven year old asked for a SHAM WOW for her birthday! And on a more serious note- yesterday when my 6 year old said to me- oh, I like that song, they play it in the Bud Light Commercial. Really??? Now why would she even see a Bud Light Commercial- maybe
In honor of National Ice Cream Month, we had to go out and celebrate with a big ice cream sundae- YUM! Then we came up with the idea to collect data about favorite ice cream flavors. We posted our project on Facebook and asked for people to tell us which flavor they like the best out of the following: chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry. The response was awesome! As the comments came rolling in thro

Today I took the baby outside not only to see nature around him, to hear the sounds of the birds chirping, but also for him to feel nature. Little man had the biggest smile on his face as he sat in the grass. He kicked his legs and kept feeling the long blades of grass with his toes. We talked about the green grass. I love giving him the opportunity to explore ou

We love Martha in our household! Before the show came out on PBS Kids, I loved the first Martha book that shares how Martha the dog ate alphabet soup and became a non-stop talking dog. Little Man is participating in Summer Reading at our local library, too. Go Little Man! Every summer we participate in summer reading at our local library. The kids are challenged to read every day. This year, they are encouraged to read for 1,000 minutes! We attended a fun kick-off party at our library. The theme this year is water. The kids made mermaids and other sea creatures with their hand and foot prints. They also created creatures from

Thinking about transitioning your baby from breast milk or formula to food? What foods should you give your baby first? How do you know that your baby is ready for food? Most articles that I have read suggest that you start your baby anywhere between 4 and 6 months of age. My pediatrician recommended that I start as close to 6 months as possible due to a history of food all

Last week at Kidz Kamp was challenging, but sooo much fun. I helped with games for our "rookie" campers- ages 6-8. I had the pleasure to work with around 150 kids. (not all at the same time!) If you are working at a camp this summer or will be helping out with games for a family picnic, etc., I thought it would be fun to share a couple of the games that we played this week. The kids are at summer camp this week and I'm volunteering, so you probably won't see much blogging around here this week. I hope you are enjoying your summer so far. Have a great week!Jen
Yesterday, we had fun making menus and playing restaurant. Peanut did a great job with her menu and loved acting as the owner of her restaurant. She even served us on a tray (cookie sheet). Sunshine wasn't as enthusiastic about creating a menu and rushed through the process, but she enjoyed the imaginary play. She is quite the drama queen!Peanut's menuI got a little chuckle out of how she spelled
After being contacted by CSN to explore their online stores, I was excited to pick out the Bazoongi Choo Choo Tent to review for Creative and Curious Kids! I should have waited for hubby to come home to give me a han

I'm hoping to win this book to share with my girls, but would be excited if one of my reader's won it! You'll have to visit Brimful Curiosities to read her wonderful review and to enter the giveaway!Happy Reading and
I must admit, I have shared the I Love You Barney song with my children quite a few times. I've had to stop singing it once the girls became way too cool for Barney, but now my little man enjoys it. Besides this love song, I like to sing a song about love that my mother sang to me when I was a tot. I'm not sure of the title, but it starts like this- I love you a bushel and a peck... All of my kids
Sidewalk Chalk- fun for learning numbers and letters and for playing simple outdoor games. Besides the traditional hopscotch, I thought that it would be fun to play a couple of different games with the kids. The girls enjoyed trying something different and it tied in a little bit of math, too! Try out some of the fun games below with your kiddos.Bulls eye- Directions: Using y

When little man was born, my girls were very curious about what he could see or how far away, etc. I had mentioned once that babies like black and white, so my daughters picked up on this and would start looking for toys that had black and white patterns on it. Patterns having 100% contrast are the easiest for baby to see, so at first baby does prefer to look at black and white images accord

Grandma gave little man a gift this week that he loves: a set of new books. The sturdy and colorful board books came in a set. When I was searching online for a photo of the set, I couldn't find it, but I did come across a nice surprise. You can actually purchase the books with a fun block set. Both books are great for baby, toddlers, or preschoolers.&nbs
